Located in the heart of Switzerland and at the gates of the economic metropolis of Zurich, Canton Schwyz has become a sought-after and successful business and residential destination. The cantonal government’s strategy paper «Wirtschaft und Wohnen im Kanton Schwyz» (Business and Residential Policy for Canton Schwyz) sets out its vision for further high-quality economic and residential growth (see Service Box).
Access
Thanks to the canton’s central location, the business centres of Zurich (including its airport), Zug and Lucerne are just 35 to 60 minutes away by road or rail. Optimal mobility is ensured by an excellent network of motorways and reliable rail and bus services.
Outlying settlements are connected with the region’s railway stations by an efficient bus network. From there, half-hourly train services connect with the larger urban centres inside and outside the canton. The districts of Höfe and March on Lake Zurich and Einsiedeln are on Zurich’s S-Bahn suburban railway network.
Real estate
Canton Schwyz has numerous commercial, industrial and office premises for sale or rent.
EU/EFTA nationals who are lawfully and effectively resident in Switzerland, and non-EU/EFTA nationals holding valid category C residency permits and effectively resident in Switzerland, may acquire property without restriction – this also applies to residential property.
Land intended for a commercial purpose can be acquired by private individuals as well as by legal entities. Prior permission is not required, even if it is held purely as a capital investment. Excluded from this rule is the creation or trading in and letting of residential space that does not form part of a hotel or apartment hotel.
If you wish to commence your commercial activities in Switzerland with immediate effect, or if you are unsure of your future needs in terms of premises, a business centre would be a good place to start.
